Northwest Missouri State University encourages students to submit their best work for presentation at the annual Celebration of Scholars, an interdisciplinary academic symposium spotlighting exceptional student work throughout campus.
Sponsored by the Society of President’s Scholars, the Honors Program, the Office of the Provost and Career Services, the symposium is open to all Northwest students. Submissions may include work completed during the spring semester or any time during the previous year.
The symposium provides the University community with an opportunity to explore the diverse research and projects students are completing across various disciplines. For participating students, it offers a platform to present their work to a broader audience beyond the classroom, fostering valuable experience in public speaking and professional presentations.

“By inviting students and faculty to engage in this event, we not only celebrate students’ hard work and achievements but also encourage the exchange of knowledge and best practices,” Dr. Mohammed Meziani, a professor of chemistry and sponsor of Northwest’s Honors Program. “Such interactions enhance students’ understanding, introduce them to new ideas and innovations, and refine their skills.
“Additionally, the symposium serves as a networking opportunity, allowing students to connect with peers and faculty, fostering meaningful collaborations. Ultimately, this experience equips students with the confidence and expertise needed for academic success, research excellence, and future career advancement.”
In past years, students have presented creative writing, original research and analytical papers. Participants have given speeches, conducted panel discussions and displayed original works of art or visual summaries of their projects in science, education and business. They have also presented dramatic readings and played or analyzed music. Original work or projects completed through coursework or during internships also have been presented.
Submissions for this year’s Celebration of Scholars are due by 5 p.m. Friday, March 21. For more information and to apply for participation, visit vgf8.yueziqi.com/academics/celebration/.
The symposium is 1 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 3, at the J.W. Jones Student Union. Sessions take place throughout the event in conjunction with displays featuring posters, artwork and other projects.
Awards are presented for the top project presentation, and attendees may be eligible for door prizes.
